04.24.21 Over this past couple of years where I've found myself returning to D&D and the world of tabletop role playing games, I have also eventually become a fan of Critical Role: a live-streamed game run and played by voice actors in LA. For me it's the right mix of them actually playing the game instead of presenting an improv comedy show loosely hung on the premise of DnD but with players who are trained actors and have no problem supplying accents, bringing plenty of story with them, and fully engaging with an equally talented DM in Matt Mercer. I've tried watching "normal" people play and it's mostly uninteresting but these guys manage to be entertaining as well as scratch that D&D itch. So all of their rising success is warranted I believe. They have comics and about their characters' origins and plenty of youtube content but this book - which is basically a companion book to the main show - interested me as well. There's a lot of great artwork in here but it is mostly a summary of players' characters, notable moments in the show, and a little bit of behind the scenes (which interested me the most). So it's not SUCH a deep dive on exactly what I was looking for, but it is a pleasant, very well put-together book that fans could and should flip through.
