11.17.07 | Really liked this one. It's period (40s) DC and a much larger scale than his other books. The main guy goes to war and another dude comes to DC from rural pennsylvania and whatnot. It's a little weird knowing the following three book involve a character who's just a baby in this one (probably giving it much more of a prequel vibe than it deserves since it came first) but whatever. Really liked it. It's still just a tad pat. I don't like how they have to know who the prostitute murderer is but whatever. It's part of the progression in his work so that's cool. I should also mention how much Shoedog's grown in my mind. Such a great book. This is up there though. I definitely liked this one more than his first three and his first three Derek Strange books... good stuff. Can't wait to read the next three. |
